Director Identification Number (DIN) - How to apply

From 1 November 2021, all directors of an Australian body or a director of a foreign company registered with ASIC and carrying on a business in Australia will need to obtain a Director Identification Number. Once a director has a DIN, they will keep it permanently.

The purpose of this is to prevent the use of false or fraudulent director identities, to trace directors’ relationships with companies over time and to identify and eliminate director involvement with unlawful activity, such as illegal phoenix activity.

All directors are required by law to verify their identity with ABRS before receiving a director ID.
